Is it shorted, or is just one winding open? If it's open, there's a
chance you can repair it yourself. Most wire breaks are close to the
binding post, and if you're very careful with an X-Acto knife you can
scrape away enough varnish to allow you to solder a jumper wire over the
break. I've repaired several transformers this way.
