I've done this a lot. I've used heat, sand-blasting, paint thinner,
Goof-Off, Goo-Gone, and more, but without question, the best thing for
removing glue off a metal control panel is WD-40. That's right, the
lubricant.

Spray it on a small section and let it sit for about 10-15 seconds. It'll
turn into snot. Then simply scrape it off with a putty knife. Repeat.
Repeat. Repeat.

When done, wipe the CP down with thinner.
