RE: linear vs switching ?

I recently acquired a Cosmic Chasm and the linear(s) in that
thing was a disaster, about 30 pounds of hacked up garbage
that took up the whole bottom of the cab. I replaced the entire
'power tray' with a small switcher that drives the logic PCB and
audio amp, and I used a xfmr from a G08 system to power the monitor.

I also thought that if a switcher failed it would supply nothing,
as this happens in the PC's at work when their supplies fail.
I figured by using a switcher it should run cooler, cleaner and more
reliable
than the linear, besides it would have taken a lot of work to repair and
undo what someone else hacked up. I've been running it for a few hours
a day for the last few weeks and so far so good !

FWIW: I borrowed a digital camera this weekend and took some pictures
of my collection, if you're interested;
