As an alternative, you can get high-voltage insulating tubing, and tape that
on with plain-old electrical tape. Make friends with the local TV repair man
and hopefully they can give/sell you the few inches you'll need. MUCH easier
than playing with the gooky stuff. That's what I used on my Asteroids.

On my Battlezone, I reused the old sockets as insulators, and taped one on
each end of the diode. Cut open, they were like little tubes.
