I've been beating that drum (although very quietly) for YEARS! How many
different actions can you have with a digital joystick? NOT ENOUGH! I
have been hoping since I figured this out that a JAMMA 2 standard would
come out that would allow for a set number of lines for input w/o limiting
the actual controls that connect to them. Unfortunately, this would
require new control panels for games with different controls which means
more money which means...it probably won't happen! :-(

PS Hmmm. This whole monitor thread has made me curious about seeing a
side-to-side comparison of MH running on both a WG and Ampliphone to see if
it makes a difference.

Personally, I think the downfall of most modern games is that JAMMA won't
let game designers innovate with new types of controls. I thought Rampart
was a nice compromise between using something other than joysticks that was
also commonly available. Still, the Atari folks had to put out a lousy
joystick version of Rampart for JAMMA cabinets.
