I'll be lynched. Neither will bring up anything on the screen or beep when put in self test mode (I've gotten confused now - on an upright self test position is up isn't it?). Neither will enter hardware diagnosis by jumpering the DIAG to Ground and grounding the watchdog disable. Both sound boards work and will self diagnoses. On one - the watchdog is barking and the IRQ is held low, but I can't find what is holding it low. On the other - the watchdog is not barking. All voltages are fine (10.3 is running at about 12 but as it is unreg I figured that was okay). All chips reseated. Any suggestions on getting it into hardware diagnoses mode? Anything I should immediately check. Audio signal generator output ground pin to HVTFR pin 4 positive pin to HVTFR pin 8 ...this is the B+ winding, I fed a signal in here as the audio sig gen did not have the output current ability to feed directly into the primary. TEST:1 2 3 4 5 6 CRO: pins4&8 1-9primary 1-2unknown 7-anode/hv 7-focus heater RESULT 1. 3.9Vpp 1.2Vpp 2.3Vpp 1.05V 1.3V 100mV 150mVpp semi-ok, low hv 2. 4.0Vpp 1.2Vpp 2.3Vpp 1.3V 1.7V --- 150mVpp dead, no focus V 3. 3.6Vpp 1.0Vpp 2.0Vpp --- 50mV 150mVpp dead, no hv 4. 4.0Vpp 1.1Vpp 2.3Vpp 1.15V 1.5V 110mV 150mVpp ok 5. 3.1Vpp 0.9Vpp 1.8Vpp --- 50mV 150mVpp dead, no hv 6. 3.9Vpp 1.1Vpp 2.2Vpp 0.8V 1.1V 100mV 150mVpp dead, low hv 7. 3.9Vpp 1.1Vpp 2.2Vpp --- --- 150mVpp dead, no hv or focus I also performed a test on the focus block, by putting the 10Vpp sine wave in the top pin(4) of the block and seeing if the main focus output on the next pin down (3), and the grid voltage on (2) changed when adjusting the block. There was about 50mV on the focus out, and 10mV on the grid out. Using the various tests, I could see the transformer load with test 1, as the sig gen output would drop when connected. Test 4 has two voltage readings as is mostly a DC signal because of the internal diode, but with a little bump in it matching the input frequency. the second, higher voltage reading is the level of the top of the bump. These tests were much better than wiring it all up and plugging it into the rest of the monitor. I found out the hard way when one of the units blew the deflection board! :( At that point I thought I would stop plugging them in, and just test the transformers individually. The image the monitor displays is of course mirrored (backwards) for reflection into the AD mirror. I'm about to begin to remove Star Trek from the AD cabinet and install it into a new direct view cabinet. Any ideas on how to reverse the backwards display?? I've looked at the monitor and whoever did it, did a nice job as I can't see where any wires might've been reversed. I'm hoping this is just a matter of reversing a couple wires...hope! Man, I am paranoid about even touching this working monitor!! ...but the AD cab is beginning to fall apart so it's gotta go. T.I.A. for any info. Games that use the mirrors have to swap the y axis. (Think about it.. How could the mirror swap the x axis with the way the mirror tilts?) The image is reversed for reflection off of the AD cab mirror, I need to reverse it back to normal for direct viewing. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not very tech orientated, so instructions such as... I've got a bunch of Amplifone Deflection boards that work but all display graphics that are a bit shaky in particular areas of the screen - depending on the deflection board tested. I know for certain that the problems are with the Deflection board(s) and not the HV because I do have one good working (super solid and stable graphics) deflection board (Thanks Jon!) and my HV's have all been completely rebuilt (per the excellent doc online - Thanks Michael!) with a Wintron transformer, BU406D, 105 degree caps, etc. I would really like to rebuild all of my deflection boards to the extent that I have rebuilt the HV's - with all modern components and any modifications that have evolved over the years. But I can't seem to find any information on this process - so here's the questions: 1. Does anyone have a list of components that should be replaced on a working board to help ensure long life and stable graphics ? 2. Is there any recommended modifications or component upgrades that have proven to be better than the originals? 3. What is the proper setting of the two 10K pots at R1/R2 and R24/R25 that look like Atari recommended field fixes? 4. I assume that I should stomp on all the 0 ohm resistors (ala HV bd.) and replace with wire jumpers? W1 through W10. 5. Is there a document available or in progress detailing this upgrade process ? If not, I'd be willing to help compile information for documenting. I love all my vector games and want to keep them around running happily for a long time. Now that all of my Amplifone HV's are rebuilt and solid the only weak link is the deflection boards. Plus, it's really hard shooting Imperial Walkers or avoiding Pyroids when the screen is unstable!! I can put up pictures of screen shots if necessary. Thanks for everyones input.... If the -28V is not there, test the 555 timer. = I've had

Great two player action. If you like tank games, this is a must-have. Alot of people comment that they like the "sounds" (tank motor etc). As for electronics, don't expect it to be as "simple" as Atari vectors. The CPU board is all TTL logic and difficult, IMHO, to debug (I wish I had an exorcisor). The monitor too, IMHO, is arkward to work with. For the right price, I guess, way less than $300US, one in nice shape would be a good find. The cabinet damage on the one you're refering to could be easily fixed.
