The term for this in the TV repair business is "blooming". The problem they are having with these old diodes cause them to have a large voltage drop, which causes them to heat, which causes the voltage to drop even more. Using anything thick will cause lumpiness when the decal is applied and you will be able to see a difference. Another good option is spray adhesive, but it is expensive ($7+ a can for Scotch 77) and you have to mask off the area to avoid overspray. I've used "Pliobond" before (found it at Ace) with fairly decent results. Basically it is very thin contact cement. I haven't had problems with this, but the label indicates that it can dissolve some plastics, so test in an inconspicuous area to be safe. Also, you should *not* wait for the adhesive to dry as the instructions indicated, again to reduce the bumpiness underneath. I'd also recommend using a small hard plastic roller to smooth it out, then clamp. In the end, you should end up with something that looks as good as original. Roy has 6 overlays that I bought off of him last year that he needed back to go through the laminator again, Seems he was having problems with the over coat lamination he was using so se wanted to re-roll them. I also have him my Space Duel to Major Havoc overlay to be reproduced. I too had not heard from him until recently. Here is what he said Hi Mark! Things have been crazy for me lately. I've pretty much put the game thing on hold. My last website update was in January, I haven't fixed any new games in months, and I haven't even been online checking emails. I'm working for a pre-IPO company and it's taking all my time. My daughters ask me each morning if I will be home that evening in time to kiss them good night. Most nights I'm not. In any case, I'm trying to get back to the hobby. My time is tight but I have a lot of promises to keep and I don't want people being any more pissed off at me. So, I still have your CPOs, and I have run them back through the laminator. There's not guarantee that they'll be better, but I hope so. I haven't done anything with the SD/MH CPO because I am not happy with the quality of the CPOs my printer has made lately. He just found a new laminate (similar to the one you showed me at the last auction) and I will be installing a test CPO later this week. If it works, great, if not, I'm out of the CPO business. However, I did promise you an SD/MH CPO. If I can't produce the CPO myself, I would be happy to do the art and send it to you (in Corel format) to print at your printer. I'll let you know how things go in the next few days. Anyway, I happy to hear that your Turbo underlay worked out. Have you embarked on any other projects since? Also, I heard your baby was in for an operation. I hope all worked out ok. ttys, -roy- SO the bottom line is that Roy is working on it and if it is any testimonial, My Black Widow overlay has been on for about a year, and still looks great! Also, Thanks to all who wished my son well before his heart surgery, Everything went great (although its still upsetting to the parents) and he is back to "Dad, I want to play the TREE GAME" which to a 3 year old means Crystal Castles.... All you need to do is degauss the tube....this can be done by turining it on....letting it sit on for a little while, then shutting it off for a while. The degaussing coil that is apart of the monitor will cure it! You do not need to go buy a degaussing coil unless there is something wrong with your's (or the degaussing circuit on the monitor). Here is a quick update on the Major Havoc repro roller project. Right
before my sons surgery, I found enough time to finish the machining work

that point Ill come up with a clever way to distribute them to the
masses. Figure mid September to wrap this up as Im in the middle of a

For any joint that is suspect, remove the old solder, clean, and flow in fresh solder. I'd do this on the connector pin solder joints, regardless. - Install a get well kit for your power supply (my CT has an A/R 3 in it). Test the voltages when complete. - Replace the power cord. It is just plain dumb that people cut off the ground -- it was put there for a reason. Of the items listed above, most are WISE preventative MAINTENANCE to an XY game (I'm not preaching -- just emphasizing -- I've learned the hard way...). I'd guess that your problem is related to your power supply board putting out incorrect/fluctuating voltages. > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-vectorlist > [mailto:owner-vectorlist ]On Behalf Of Robb Allen > Sent: Monday, September 4, 2000 6:09 PM > To: vectorlist > Subject: VECTOR: Monitor Questions > > > Ok.... > > On my Pac Man cocktail, everything works, but both the top of the screen > and the bottom of the screen are wavy and twisted looking. I never found a good cheap place to get the underglass and CPO overlays, myself. Just don't get gouged buying cocktail glass in the mail - you can get it cheaper locally, without the shipping. ObVector - I just went to visit my Tempest after a 6 month absence, and played it for a few hours. I'm once again amazed at how great Roy's tempest spinner retrofit works. I've spent all weekend privately emailing all parties I've promised something to and I hope all issues have been addressed. I focused almost soley on producing CPOs for esoteric vector games, primarily based on individual needs for fellow vector list members. I did this as a way of trying to contribute back to the community that has help me out on so many occasions in the past. I spent a lot of time, effort and money trying to produce these CPOs. The problems I've had with my printer have cost me a lot to try to resolve and have been really frustrating. The thing that pisses me off is that it's not because of my lack of ability to do the art - the problems have been out my my contol. In any case, I tried expanding my hobby into CPO production and it didn't work out. I hope didn't piss too many people off with the way things have gone. I've done my best, but in the end this is just a hobby for me. As such it has taken a back seat to more pressing life issues. If anyone has any open, unaddressed business with me, please email me at chumblespuz . If anyone with better production capabilities is interested in my artwork, please email me as well. It could be that the wedges are in a good spot. That is what they are there for, after all - to keep the yoke in place. Setting convergence is not difficult. There is a sweet spot where the lines all match up. You still need to have a mirror or something in front of you. Kind of a pain considering that you could simply swap the wires on the yoke plug. Back from a week of vacation, and have some tid-bits. As mentioned earlier, I have an omega race mini project in the works. Well, Paul (a vector lurker) dropped by last monday with a working board set and monitor for me. We proceeded with the install. On boot, the demo came up, but the game play was screwy. The play board came up, minus the midle box. As soon as the ship was released, the screen went nuts with vectors scrolling around. We put it in diagnostics and it pointed to a bad ram at S3 or S2. Replaced the 2114 at S3 and she fired up fine. Woo Hoo!. The sound then went screwy. It would play for a bit, then freeze. Sounded like the cpu was getting hung. We swapped out the cpu and the 2 2114 ram chips on it and the sound was fine. I had to blow out the spinner with some compressed air, cause it was acting weird. It's fine now! Then, the very next day, I was coming back from a trip to the zoo, and in my subdivision, I spotted a couple of kids having a small garage sale down the road (on a tuesday????). from 4 houses away, I spotted a small black box with a vertical grey screen, Got home, dropped off the kids and wife and walked back. Yup, Vectrex. 3 games (hyperchase, scramble and another, plus, of course, minestorm). Is it working? Kids said yes. How much? Kids said $17.50. I gave them $20, and they were right, it does work! A good vector week. Not only the CPOs but also the spinner kits(!) and he's been a good contributor to this forum. I had asked Steven Gregory if he was planning on doing Gravitar, BW, BZ, and OR overlays but he did not see that happening in the near/far future. Perhaps, if Roy is getting out of the "business", he could strike up a deal with Steven to use his art files to make these CPOs (if there is still interest)? Since my Chumblespuzz Gravitar CPO was "lost" in the mail, I'm out cash and my game could still use a nice overlay ... so my vote is "yey" for this to happen.
